KGA LIFTS ESLINDA MEMORIAL TROPHY AN EVENT TO MATCH THE EID FESTIVITIES AMONG EXPATRIATES


Nineteen Teams participated in the 3rd Edition of Eslinda Memorial Football Tournament organized by Churchill Brothers-sponsored Kuwait Goan Association (KGA) on the first day of Eid Al Adha under the presidentship of Salvador Dias which was witnessed by a large number of spectators at the MOH Grounds under the auspices of KIFF and officiated by KIFRA referees. The tournament was sponsored by Gulf Cable & Electrical Co. and co-sponsored by UAE Exchange Co., Super Middle East Freight & Logistics Co., Lulu Hypermarkets, Speedex, Mughal Mahal, Dana Optics, Lipton, Fitwell Tailor, M&M Confectionery, Bhasin Co. and Almarai Co. and matches conducted in an orderly manner and it was Skynet Raiders, KGA, United Friends Club and Curtorcares United who reached the top last four in their respective groups. On the onset, KGA president welcomed the chief guest and the guest of honour and bouquet of flowers were presented by Olesya Dias and Lavina Fernandes.

The finals were hotly contested by Curtorcares United and KGA and the results were decided by the tie-breaker with KGA winning the glittering Winners Trophy given away by the chief guest Dennis D’Costa and the Runners-up Trophy went to Curtorcares United presented by guest of honour MerwIn Franco of Gulf Cable & Electrical Co. A game of housie was conducted with prizes sponsored by Tome Gracias and Joseph Mergulhao which were won by Amaldo Fernandes (President - Curtorcares United) and Tony Dias (President - Santos FC). Among the special invitees were Pancily Varkey - UAE Exchange Co. country head, Ivan Barretto (Speedex), Domingos Araujo (Kala Mogui Kuwait), Gaspar Almeida (Goa-world.com), Armado Fernandes (Carrier), Ranifa Dias and Franwin Noronha and their families. Special highlights and prizes were awarded to Conny Rodrigues of KGA who was decided by a panel of judges as the Best Goalkeeper (final) and Man of the Match (final), Zico Fernandes of Curtorcares United as the Best Defender, Josse Fernandes and Valente Fernandes (both of KGA) were awarded the Best Striker and First Scorer of the final respectively.

Lester Dias of Curtorcares United was awarded the best goalkeeper of the tournament and the best disciplined team was claimed by United Friends Club which were presented by Pancily Varkey (UAE Exchange Co). The tournament proceedings were compered by Penny Rebello and DJ music provided by Franky Costa and Chefle D’Souza. Refreshments by Lipton Tea and Almarai were served to all teams and spectators which included families and children. The individual prizes for the team players for the Winners were given away by Dennis D’Costa and for the Runners-up team by Merwin Franco. Teddy Pinto claimed the Oldest Player award registered with KIFF playing for the tournament to a thunderous applause which was presented by V.K. Vohra (KGA) and Prizes to the semi-finalists were given away by Avinash Rogtao (KGA) and Fidelis Fernandes (KIFF President & KGA member). Individual gifts were also given to KIFRA referees offered by Lulu Hypermarkets to Adolf Fernandes, Robert Simon, Rosario Colaco, Arnold, Romeo Fernandes, Duarte Ferrao, Victor Andrade, Edward Dias, Casmiro Fernandes, Conny Rodrigues, Bernardo Fernandes and Romeo D’Costa. KGA now gets set for presenting a Konkani tiatr “Xirlo” by Mario Menezes on 18th November at Al Jeel Al Jadeed Arabic School (Opp. Canary Restaurant), Tunis Street – Hawalli. The Eid Al Adha festivities are continuously celebrated by KGA for the last three years at the lush green serene surroundings of the MOH Grounds with the Arabian sea tidal waves in the background and the organizers and thankful to the MOH Grounds management.
