Kerala doctors who performed 22 caesareans shunted
Thiruvananthapuram, April 25 (IANS) Four Kerala doctors who performed 22 hurried caesarean deliveries in two days last week in order to go on long leave have been transferred from their place of posting, officials said Monday.
The state health department, through an order Monday, formed a three-member committee of doctors headed by the health vigilance additional director and two other women doctors to inquire into the allegation.
They have been transferred to Malappuram and Wayanad districts from Shertalai in Alappuzha district.
On April 19 and 20, a male doctor and three lady doctors performed 22 caesarean deliveries. They apparently did this because the Easter holidays were beginning from April 21.
Meanwhile, reports have surfaced of similar caesareans performed in the state-run hospital in Kollam, between April 18 and 20, as a few doctors wanted to go on Easter leave.
The health department has began an inquiry into this after relatives of patients said that close to at least 16 caesareans were conducted.
