Kashmir not to roll back fuel price hike
Jammu, June 29 (IANS) Unlike many other states in the country, Jammu and Kashmir will not roll back the hike in prices of kerosene, liquefied petroleum gas or diesel, official sources here said.
"Our resources are limited and we have to depend on the central government to pay wages. In such a situation, it is just not possible for us to subsidise these items, even if we want to do so," a source in the finance ministry told IANS.
"The problem in Jammu and Kashmir is that of poor tax collection. There are economic constraints," the source explained.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Tuesday said in Srinagar that it was not possible for the government to offer any subsidy on the recent hike announced by the central government on kerosene, cooking gas and diesel.
