Karunanidhi didn't ask for DMK replacements
Chennai, July 12 (IANS) DMK president M. Karunanidhi Tuesday said he did not ask for berths for the DMK after party leaders Dayanidhi Maran and A. Raja quit Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's ministry.
Karunanidhi said that he will comment later on Tuesday's cabinet reshuffle.
Asked if he talked to Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee about his daughter Kanimozhi, who is in Tihar jail charged as a co-conspirator in the 2G spectrum scam, Karunanidhi replied in the negative.
Karunanidhi and Mukherjee had met here last week.
Karunanidhi told reporters that the DMK would decide on all issues relating to the centre and the state when its General Council meets July 23-24 at Coimbatore, around 500 km from here.
A key ally of the United Progressive Alliance government, DMK figured nowhere in the reshuffle.
The DMK's presence in the council of ministers is now reduced to four -- cabinet minister M.K. Azhagiri (chemicals and fertilisers) and ministers of state S.S. Palanimanickam (finance), D. Napoleon (social justice) and S. Gandhiselvan (health).
