Thiruvananthapuram, May 30 (IANS) Six-time Congress legislator G. Karthikeyan will be the Congress-led United Democratic Front's candidate for the Speaker's post for which election will be held June 2.

 
 The Oommen Chandy-led alliance has 72 and the Left Front led by the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) has 68 members in the 140-seat Kerala assembly.
 
 The Left has selected former minister A.K. Balan as its candidate.
 
 Karthikeyan, 62, is a two-time former minister and his candidature was a foregone conclusion after he was left out of the 20-member Chandy cabinet.
