Kanimozhi appears before IT officials
Chennai, May 12 (IANS) Kanimozhi, DMK MP and the daughter of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi, Thursday appeared before income tax (IT) authorities in response to summons issued by the department.
Named by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) as co-conspirator in the 2G spectrum scam and awaiting the bail decision of a trial court in New Delhi, Kanimozhi and Kalaignar TV Managing Director Sharad Kumar were summoned by IT authorities to explain the financial dealings of the channel company.
Both Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar had been given exemption by the trial court from marking their attendance Thursday and Friday.
Kanimozhi managed to give the waiting media the slip after the deliberations with the IT officials. IT officials also refused to speak on the matter.
The CBI had named Kanimozhi and Sharad Kumar as co-conspirators in the chargesheet after it traced Rs.214 crore as an illegal money trail.
The money trail moved from Dynamix to Kusegaon and then on to Cineyug, all part of the DB Group that promoted Swan Telecom, ending with Kalaignar TV that gets its name from how Karunanidhi is popularly called - a scholar.
The channel company had earlier stated that the Rs.214 crore was a loan and paid back with interest.
