Kalmadi requests separate van for court travel
New Delhi, July 17 (IANS) Suresh Kalmadi, the jailed former Commonwealth Games (CWG) Organising Committee chief, and other co-accused in the CWG scam have requested the special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court for a separate van to travel to the court as they fear an attack by other undertrials travelling with them.
"It is not that they (high-profile prisoners in CWG case) are taken to the court everyday with the other accused... they are given proper security. As of now the 2G accused are taken in a separate jail van," a jail official said.
Besides, Kalmadi has also asked for a medical check-up.
"Recently we have done a medical check-up but he still requested for one more, which will be done," the official said.
Apart from Kalmadi and other co-accused like former director general, CWG organising committee V.K.Verma, former secretary general, CWG organising committee Lalit Bhanot, former officials M. Jaychandran, Surjit Lal and A.S.V. Prasad requested for a separate van to travel to the court, like the 2G accused.
"We don't differentiate whether it is 2G or CWG, all high-profile prisoners are given proper security considering there safety," the official added.
Kalmadi was arrested by the CBI for his alleged involvement in large-scale irregularities in the preparations for the 2010 Commonwealth Games.
