JD-S to release more documents on Yeddyurappa's graft

Bangalore, June 15 (IANS) The Janata Dal-Secular plans to expose the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s "double standards" on corruption ahead of the latter’s national-level campaign beginning June 24 against the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government, a top party leader indicated Wednesday.

“Two days before the BJP begins its campaign against the UPA government, I will release in New Delhi documents on corruption by (Karnataka Chief Minister B.S.) Yeddyurappa,” JD-S state president and former state chief minister H.D. Kumaraswamy told reporters here.

“I will expose BJP’s double standards on corruption as it is protecting Yeddyurappa while attacking the UPA government for corruption,” he said.

Kumaraswamy’s threat came a day after Yeddyurappa’s political secretary B.J. Putttaswamy released documents to claim that the JD-S leader’s brothers were involved in illegal export of iron ore.

Kumaraswamy said there was nothing new in Puttaswamy’s claims. “My brothers have already given clarification and I have also said I have nothing to do with their business,” the JD-S leader said.

Kumaraswamy has three brothers, one of whom is a JD-S member of the state assembly. The other two are not in politics. Their father H.D. Deve Gowda is JD-S president and former prime minister.

Puttaswamy said Tuesday that within months of Kumaraswamy becoming chief minister in 2006, the companies owned by his brothers had shown business transaction of Rs. 167 crore by exporting iron ore to China and Singapore.
