Jayalalithaa reshuffles cabinet
Chennai, June 27 (IANS) Nearly a month after forming her cabinet, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa Monday inducted a new minister and reallocated the portfolios of some ministers.
Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, on the advice of Jayalalithaa, approved the appointment of A. Mohammed John as the minister for backward classes and minorities welfare, a statement issued here said.
John is a legislator from Ranipet constituency. He will be sworn-in June 29 at Raj Bhavan.
According to the statement, portfolios of some ministers have also been reallocated.
The newly created department for special programme implementation held by S.P. Velumani has been allotted to M.C. Sampath.
Velumani has been designated as minister for industries in place of C. Shanmugavelu who has been shifted as minister for rural industries.
Sports and Youth Welfare Minister N.R. Sivapathi has been shifted to animal husbandry while the current Animal Husbandry Minister C. Karuppasamy has been allotted the sports and youth welfare ministry.
With John's induction into the ministry, T.K.M. Chinnayya has been redesignated as minister for environment. Chinnayya was earlier looking after the backward classes and minorities welfare portfolios in addition to environment.
