INDIAN CENTRAL SCHOOL ORGANIZES EXHIBITION : GLOBALISATION AND ITS IMPACT ON EDUCATION
Indian Central School, Kuwait organized an exhibition on the theme, ‘Globalization and its Impact on Education’ on 17th November 2011 at the CBSE-(i) Block of the school. A plan was drawn by the Principal which included every member’s participation from the school inclusive of the parent community. The exhibition was inaugurated by the First Secretary Mr. H.K Mohan. The event was attended by Directors and Inspectors from the Ministry of Pvt. Education, dignitaries and prominent personalities from various fields, Principals, teachers, students of various Indian schools in Kuwait, parents and well-wishers of ICS. The creative, innovative and talented students of ICS with timely guidance from their teachers put up a spectacular display of working models, projects, charts, power point presentations etc. to enthrall the spectators.
The Mathematics department focused on how globalization gave a different perspective to the subject. The displays highlighted the use of geometrical shapes in every aspect of life. There were models depicting modern and ancient city shapes, food courts etc. The major attractions were models of Pizza Hut, KFC, ice cream parlour, bakeries etc. with their food items in various geometrical shapes. They also presented Airport, Navy and Military camp. The tiny tots of Kindergarten represented various shapes to add to the splendour. The very informative Career Guidance Centre of the department gave the visitors all the knowledge they required on choosing the right career, various vistas available for the students and answered their mind boggling queries.
Globalization in science and technology was represented by all the branches of Science - Physics, Chemistry and Biology by reflecting the theme meticulously through their exhibits. Robotics in Physics was the highlight of the working models displayed besides many others showing conservation of natural resources which gave a glimpse of the future world. Health being a global concern, the senior students had put up a pathology lab and performed various tests appraising the visitors with their present levels of blood sugar, pressure and lung capacity etc. and thus to care for their health through the knowledge of various human organ systems ultimately focusing on how Science can sustain global life. The chemical world projected on matters related to life applications with working models on Reverse Osmosis, structure of carbon compound expressing the entire chemistry in a nut shell, Glowing egg, Invisible script etc. among the many.
The Social Science arena was overflowing with exhibits on the theme, combined with Commerce and Humanities department. They showed the impact of globalization in the political, social, economic and trading life of India. Changes in fashion, food, clothing, housing, farming techniques, trade relations, socially and currently relevant topics like pollution control,waste management from the time of introduction of the NEP of 1991 etc. were presented. The major attractions were fruit and vegetable carvings and a working model of ATM machine .The message “think globally and act locally’ was artistically and creatively displayed.
Language being the key to globalization, various departments highlighted the contribution of language towards it. English being the global language focused on the impact of it on the global culture and attitude. The models displayed were on the globe’s contribution to literature and language with loan words from various languages enriching the language and its ongoing expansion. The complete illustration of ‘Swami and friends’ by R. K. Narayan, novels, poems and stories written by CBSE-X i students, Fairy Tale Theatre of Kindergarten, rhymes and choral recitations etc.were the highlights. The audio-visual learning aids prepared by the students were also projected.
The Hindi department portrayed the ancient educational system of Gurukulas with the students enacting the Guru-Shishya aspect in the traditional way and the modern futuristic education system with its technological aspect. The various features like dance styles,music,sports,exports,reality shows, poets, writers and Bollywod through which Hindi is spreading world wide were shown. The cuisine from all parts of India was a major attraction.
The French department depicted the impact of French language and its culture on global fashion, food, art and literature. The aesthetic display of exhibits revealed the contribution of French.
The Arabic department edified all on Kuwait - its culture and traditions. The wedding ceremonies, setting, music, food, clothes, articles etc. of Kuwait were showcased. There was a cultural film depicting the old traditions of Kuwait.
The I.T.dept. was stealing attention with their models of computers, I.T companies, artificial intelligence and games. The students presented ‘Information at fingertip’ which made the concept of global village possible through their displays.
The grand exhibition concluded with raving reviews and applause of all who attended. The Principal Mrs. Shanta Maria James appreciated the students, teachers and staff of ICS for their assiduous efforts in making the exhibition a grand success.
