New Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS) India has 126 large dams that are over 100 years old.


Water Resources Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal told the Rajya Sabha that the responsibility of protecting the dams lay with the project authority and state government.

However, the central government had set up a National Committee on Dam Safety to render technical advice on dam safety activities in states and suggest improvements, Bansal said in a statement.
