New Delhi, July 24 (IANS) India Sunday condemned the "senseless acts of violence" in Norway when a 32-year-old man showered bullets on a youth camp and triggered a bomb attack in Oslo, resulting in the deaths of 92 people.


"We are shocked and saddened by the attacks in Oslo and Utoya on 22 July 2011, which have led to loss of so many innocent lives and injuries to scores other," a statement issued by the external affairs ministry said.

"We condemn these senseless acts of violence. The government and people of India stand with the people and the government of Norway at this tragic juncture."

Far-right Christian activist Anders Behring Breivik allegedly sprayed bullets Friday evening at a youth camp on Utoya island. At least 85 people were killed in the carnage.

A devastating car bomb ripped apart government offices, including those of Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg, leaving seven dead and about 90 injured. Breivik is also linked to the bombing.

He confessed to the killings Saturday, though his exact motives are still not known.
