This guide will help you to switch from yahoo, hotmail and other email providers to gmail without losing all your emails and contacts.

Step 1

• Login to your gmail account.
• Click the Gear icon in the top right-hand corner of your inbox, then select Mail settings.
• Under the Accounts and Import tab, click the Import mail and contacts button.

Step 2

• Enter your email address and click continue (yahoo, hotmail, etc)

Step 3

• Enter your email password and click continue

Step 4

Check the required options.

Import contacts

If you want to import all the contacts from your old email to gmail click this check box

Import Mails

If you want to import all the emails from your old email to gmail click this check box

Import new mail for next 30 days

If you want to continue your old email for another 30 days and forward all incoming mails to gmail check this box.

Add label

You can specify a new label for the imported mails.

Finaly click Start Import.

Step 5




Your messages and contacts will be imported within 2 days. This is a background process so you can logout gmail.

To check the status go to Settings -> Accounts and Import.

Google has so many facilities and features which other providers dont. For auto forwarding in yahoo you have to pay and upgrade to mail plus.
