Home Guard burnt to death

Lucknow, Sep 9 (IANS) A man employed with the Home Guard was burnt to death by unidentified men in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah district, police said Friday. The motive of the crime is yet to be ascertained.

Tejpal, 45, who was attached with Etah’s Sakeet police station, was set afire late Thursday at a secluded place. Some people spotted Tejpal writhing in pain and informed police.

“Tejpal was torched after his duty hours while he was returning home in Bhagwantpur village," police inspector Subhash Pandey told reporters in Etah, some 300 km from Lucknow.

“By the time we reached the site, Tejpal had died. Preliminary investigations indicate the involvement of two-three people in the killing," he added.

While police are yet to establish any specific reason behind the killing, they believe the crime was not linked to any loot as Tejpal was not carrying any valuable item at the time of attack.

“Taking this into account, we are now focusing on whether Tejpal had an old rivalry with locals or his relatives," said Pandey.
