Four arrested for Uttar Pradesh doctor's killing
Lucknow, May 4 (IANS) The Uttar Pradesh Police have arrested four people for the murder of Lucknow chief medical officer V.P. Singh, the state police chief said Wednesday.
"We have taken into custody four persons suspected to be connected with the killing and two country made-pistols have been recovered from them," Director General of Police Karamveer Singh said at a press conference here.
V.P. Singh was gunned down during his routine morning walk in the posh Gomati Nagar locality here April 2.
According to the police chief, it is yet to be established whether the guns recovered were used for the murder.
"A month-long investigation has given us leads that point to the direct or indirect involvement of the four arrested persons - Shachindra Singh, Manvendra Singh, Gaya Maurya and Sahil Khan - in the killing," he said.
"Their interrogations has revealed that contract killer Sudhakar Pandey was in Lucknow during the second week of March and was apparently planning a major strike here," Singh said.
The police have been working on the premise that the murder was masterminded by Sudhakar Shukla, who was an accused in the murder of V.P. Singh's predecessor Vinod Arya in October 2010.
Pandey continues to be at large.
