Egyptian ex-minister sentenced to five years in jail

Cairo, May 10 (IANS) Egypt's former tourism minister Zuheir Garranah was sentenced to five years in jail Tuesday for illegally issuing licences to tourism companies, state TV said.

 
 Garranah is the second senior official from the former government ruled by ex-president Hosni Mubarak to be sentenced to a jail term. He was found guilty of issuing licences for tourism companies illegally, reported Xinhua.
 
 On May 5, Egypt's former interior minister Habib Ibrahim el-Adli was sentenced to 12 years in jail over money laundering and embezzlement.
 
 Mubarak stepped down Feb 11 following 18 days of large-scale anti-government protests that broke out in Cairo and quickly spread throughout Egypt.
