DMK still our partner, says Manmohan Singh
On Board Air India One, May 28 (IANS) Amid speculation about the DMK splitting from the United Progressive Alliance in the aftermath of the arrest Kanimozhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Saturday said "as of now" the DMK is "our partner" and hinted at a cabinet reshuffle soon.
"As of now DMK is our partner and there is no change in that," Manmohan Singh replied when asked whether the government and the Congress party were open to the idea of bringing the AIADMK into the UPA fold.
He was speaking to reporters midair, aboard his special aircraft while returning home from a six-day official visit to Ethiopia and Tanzania.
Asked about the probe into the 2G scam, Manmohan Singh said the matter was in court and it would not be proper on his part to comment on it.
"As far as the 2G investigations are concerned, the CBI is at work and the matter is in the court. It would be improper for me to make any comment about the progress of the case," he said.
When asked about the long-speculated cabinet reshuffle, which he had earlier indicated would take place before the monsoon session of parliament, the prime minister said: "When I go back home, I will apply my mind."
"As far as cabinet reshuffle is concerned, I don't like to discuss this matter in a press conference," he replied when asked another question on his approach towards the reshuffle.
He also skirted a question on whether coalition politics was coming in the way of good governance.
"Our basic agenda remains the agenda to accelerate the tempo of economic growth, to ensure that our country grows at the rate of about 9 to 10 percent per annum, and also in the process, to ensure that this growth benefits all sections of our communities," he said.
