DMK government destroying important files: AIADMK
Chennai, April 24 (IANS) Tamil Nadu's opposition AIADMK Sunday charged the ruling DMK government with destroying important files in the guise of shifting various departments from Fort St. George to the new assembly building.
In a complaint to the Election Commission, copies of which was released to the media here, the AIADMK has urged it to issue appropriate instructions to the state government to defer all proceedings to shift to the new assembly building and also post central security forces so that files are not destroyed.
In its complaint, the AIADMK said: "... there are several limitations in the functioning of the caretaker government which can only carry on the day-to-day administration pertaining to maintenance of law and order, payment of salaries to government servants, etc., and they should not make any decisions which are not necessary except for the purpose of carrying on the administration."
"As such, the caretaker government functioning now cannot take any major policy decision which includes shifting of the departments functioning in the existing Secretariat which will be the prerogative of the government that is to be formed after the announcement of results of the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly elections," it said.
Polling for the 234-member Tamil Nadu assembly was held April 13. Counting of votes will take place May 13.
