Dikshit meets Jayalalithaa
New Delhi, June 13 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit Monday called on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa, a day ahead of the AIADMK chief's meeting with the prime minister.
Dikshit is the first Congress leader to meet the AIADMK supremo, who became chief minister of Tamil Nadu defeating in the recent assembly polls M. Karunanidhi's DMK, an ally of the ruling United Progressive Alliance at the centre.
Dikshit described her 10-minute meeting with Jayalalithaa at Tamil Nadu Bhavan as a "courtesy call".
Jayalalithaa arrived in New Delhi Monday afternoon. Her visit comes almost a month after Congress president Sonia Gandhi invited her for 'tea', sparking speculation of a tie-up between the AIADMK and Congress.
Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ravi Shankar Prasad and Communist Party of India national secretary D. Raja also met Jayalalithaa Monday evening.
While Raja described it as a visit to discuss the issues faced by the state, Prasad, who met Jayalalithaa along with his wife, described his visit as a courtesy call, refusing to answer questions on prospects of an alliance between AIADMK and the BJP.
