Development projects in Tamilnadu should commence on top priority. 'Tamizhar Nala Iyakkam', Kuwait
'Tamilzhar Nala Iyakkam, Kuwait' convened its first meeting at Salmiya on 9 December 2011. The meeting was chaired by Er. Rajasekar and presided over by the Industrialist Mr. Sadik Basha and 'Vazhaikuda Periyar' Mr. Chellaperumal. Dr. Paul Manuel welcomed the participants and he emphasized the need of development projects such as Koodangulam Nuclear Power Project, Sethusamudhra Canal Project for the welfare of Tamil people. In his brief address, Scientist Dr. K. Kumar emphasized the importance and the need of Sethusamudram Canal Project and Koodangulam Nuclear Power Project to Tamil Nadu. He expressed his concern that these projects are deliberately halted due to political and religious reasons. He accentuated that these project activities should be expedited by the Indian Government at the earliest for the benefit of Tamil people for which, the Tamilnadu State Government should extend its full cooperation and support. Er. Sekar stressed that the rights of Tamilnadu should be respected in Mullaiperiyar Dam issue as it is a life-line for Tamilnadu State. The following resolutions have been made in the meeting.
With adherence of all safety and welfare measures, the Koodangulam Nuclear Power project should commence at the earliest to meet out the acute power shortage in Tamilnadu State.
Central and State Government should take immediate action to resume the Sethusamudram Canal project with due consideration of religious sentiments and welfare not only for Tamilnadu State but for national interest.
The 'Tamizhar Nala Iyakkam' is observed that it is highly unfortunate that the Kerala State government went on introducing new legislation to nullify Supreme Court's February 2006 order allowing Tamil Nadu to raise the water level at Mullaperiyar Dam from 136 feet to 142 feet. Kerala Government should realize that Mullaiperiyar is the life-line for Tamilnadu people and the cordial relationship between the two States should have been maintained without jeopardizing our national integrity.
The prominent members includes from 'Kuwait Tamizhosai Poets Assossiation' Mr. Francis, Sivamani, Sivakumar, Senthairavi, Anantharavi, Vittukatti Masthan, Ajees, Anbazhahan, Karthikeyan, 'Mandalam' Mathivaanan, Engineers Kanthanathan, Gabrial Gunaseelan, Jonson, Dayaalan ,Anand, Teachers Aani Francis and Anitha Jonson expressed their views and extend their solid support for early commencement of Koodangulam Nuclear Power Project and Sedusamudram Canal Project. They opined that Mullaiperiyar Dam is safe and strong with the views of scientific and technical evidence. As the matter is sub judies, the emotional sentiments from political parties should have been avoided and Mullaiperiyar Dam issue should be amicably settled by the concern States as per the Supreme Court direction.
