Court orders rollback of school fee hike

New Delhi, July 19 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Tuesday directed the Delhi government to order the rollback of the Rs.400 hike in the monthly tuition fee announced by Ramjas School in west Delhi's Anand Parbat area.

Justice Kailash Gambhir said: "The directorate of education (DOE) is directed to pass the order against the school to rollback the hiked fee in four weeks and inform the court by the next date of hearing."

The court was hearing a petition filed by a group of parents, through counsel Ashok Aggarwal alleging Ramjas School in Anand Parbat has arbitrarily hiked the tuition fee for the year 2011-2012 academic session, which is violative of the high court's earlier order as well as the government's notification.

"The matter will be taken up Sep 9, as the next date of hearing," said the court.

The court issued the direction, after taking note of government counsel's submission that the committee set up by the department of education has found in an inquiry that the school violated the government's April 2010 notification.
