Court declines relief to Gujarat government

New Delhi, April 28 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Thursday declined to grant immediate relief to the Gujarat government seeking stay on a Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order passed in favour of a Gujarat cadre IPS officer.

A division bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Sanjiv Khanna said: “Let the matter be listed for final direction on May 13.”

Aormer attorney general Soli Sorabjee appeared for the Gujarat government in the case.

The Tribunal had quashed the Annual Confidential Report and chargesheet filed by the Gujarat government against additional director general of police Kuldip Sharma early this year.

Due for promotion as DGP, he had been sidelined and his ACR for four years was downgraded in a single day, besides which he was chargesheeted.

Following the CAT order, Sharma proceeded on deputation to Delhi, taking over as the additional director general of the Bureau of Police Research and Development.

The Gujarat government then moved the Delhi high court for a permanent stay.
