Congress wants more talks with legislators, MPs over Telangana
New Delhi, July 4 (IANS) The Congress has called for another round of talks with its legislators and parliamentarians from Telangana in Andhra Pradesh even as they were expected to resign en masse, party leader Ghulam Nabi Azad said Monday.
"They were supposed to submit their resignations. We have requested that we would like to have another round (of talks) before they submit their resignations," Azad, the Congress leader in charge of Andhra Pradesh, told reporters here Monday.
As per reports from Hyderabad, five Congress legislators have already resigned.
Reacting to reports that the central leadership had invited them to Delhi for talks, state minister K. Venkat Ram Reddy told reporters that there was no question of going unless the centre agreed to form a separate Telangana state.
"We have already made it clear that our visit last month was the last visit to Delhi for talks," he said in Hyderabad.
Nine MPs of the Congress have reached Delhi to submit their resignations to Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar.
Azad said in Delhi that he was in contact with the legislators and MPs and expected to hold more discussions. "I expect some representatives of MLAs and MPs to come here to Delhi and have another round of talks," he told reporters.
