Congress to hold rally in Mayawati's village
New Delhi, May 14 (IANS) The Congress Saturday announced it will hold a rally in Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati’s native village Badalpur next month to keep up the momentum of its agitation against the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) government on issues concerning the farmers.
“We hope to hold a rally in Badalpur where Mayawati has built a huge farmhouse,” Congress general secretary Digvijay Singh said here.
Singh, who is incharge of Uttar Pradesh, said the rally will be held in the first week of June.
He said the rally will focus on “corruption of Mayawati government and injustice against Dalits of Badalpur”.
The Congress had taken on the Mayawati government following protests by farmers for their land acquired in Greater Noida.
Party general secretary and MP Rahul Gandhi had visited Bhatta Parsaul village in Greater Noida earlier this week giving a surprise to the Mayawati government. He was later arrested and released.
The Congress is gearing up for next year’s assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh and is holding a two-day meeting of its state unit in Varanasi May 18-19.
While Rahul Gandhi will inaugurate the meeting May 18, party president Sonia Gandhi will address it on the concluding day. She will also address a public meeting in Varanasi.
