Congress core group discusses CAG report
New Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS) The Congress core committee met Saturday to discuss the political situation, including the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report that has indicted the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and the Delhi government for irregularities in the Commonwealth Games.
The meeting is being held at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's 7, Race Course Road residence, the sources added.
Besides Manmohan Singh, the meeting is being attended by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Defence Minister A.K. Antony, Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel, party general secretary Janardan Dwivedi and other leaders.
This is the first meeting of the core committee in the absence of party chief Sonia Gandhi who is recuperating abroad after a surgery.
Sonia Gandhi's son and party general secretary Rahul Gandhi, who is among the four leaders named to oversee party affairs in her absence, has accompanied his mother abroad, party sources said.
The meeting will discuss the CAG report which came out Friday and put the blame on the Delhi government, led by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, and the PMO for delays and inefficiency in the conduct of the Games, sources added.
