Congress activists protest killing of Indian fishermen
Chennai, April 18 (IANS) Over 200 Congress activists led by Tamil Nadu state unit chief K.V. Thangkabalu were arrested Monday when they tried to march towards the Sri Lankan deputy high commission office here protesting the killing of Indian fishermen by the island nation's navy.
The Congress workers assembled near Nageswararao Park in Mylapore and condemned the killing of four Indian fishermen April 2.
Condemning the killings, Thangkabalu demanded that the central government take immediate action to prevent the repeat of such incidents.
He said despite the action taken by the central and the state governments and the assurances given by the island nation's government, the killing of Indian fishermen on the high seas by the Lankan navy personnel continues.
