Clarify how Yeddyurappa resigned, Cong tells BJP

New Delhi, Aug 1 (IANS) The Congress Monday hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over B.S. Yeddyurappa saying it should clarify how his resignation as chief minister of Karnataka was secured.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari alleged that there were reports that Yeddyurappa's resignation was secured by BJP's central leadership on an assurance that Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde's report on illegal mining indicting him will be dumped.

"BJP should explain on what conditions was Yeddyurappa's resignation secured. This is also important because the state government has the right to reject the report under the Lokayukta Act."

"We also want to appeal to the Supreme Court since they are monitoring the issue of illegal mining. These reports coming from Bangalore should be considered with all seriousness," Tewari said.

He said the Lokayukta's report points to money from illegal mining having gone into foreign banks.

“Not only the chief minister but charges have been levelled against some senior ministers. I want to ask BJP how will they bring back the money from foreign banks,” Tewari said.
