Chidambaram concludes three-day Kashmir visit

Srinagar, June 22 (IANS) Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram Wednesday concluded his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir after interacting with the Border Security Force (BSF) soldiers posted at the Line of Control (LOC).

The BSF helicopter carrying the home minister landed at the technical area of Srinagar International Airport Wednesday morning where Chidambaram boarded an MI17 chopper to reach the Neeru post in Gurez sector of the LOC.

"Some media reports had said the helicopter carrying the home minister developed a technical snag and had to make an emergency landing at Srinagar airport," a source told IANS here.

Unconfirmed reports here, however, said the pilot of the twin-engine BSF helicopter was not comfortable with the parameters of one of the engines and that is why an MI17 helicopter was pressed into the service.

"MI17 helicopters have a better flight record during bad weather and high altitude sorties," the sources added.

At Neeru post, the home minister interacted with the soldiers and enquired about their well-being during a Sainik Sammelan.

Later, the home minister boarded a special plane for New Delhi from Srinagar airport Wednesday afternoon.
