Chandigarh, July 25 (IANS) A special court here Monday sent Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Raka Ghira to two days' Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) remand in a graft case.


Ghira, posted as DSP (City) in adjoining Mohali, was arrested Sunday on charges of corruption after she was caught by the CBI accepting a bribe of Rs.100,000 from a Punjab-based builder.

The probe agency's lawyer told the CBI court that the CBI, after nabbing Ghira at her bungalow in Sector 15 here, stumbled upon over Rs.85 lakh in cash, fixed deposit receipts worth several lakhs of rupees and over 1,000 unused bullets.

She was caught when she took the first installment of Rs.100,000 as bribe from builder K.K. Malhotra here Sunday to help him in cases of fraud against him in Mohali district.

The CBI search operations in the 1,000-square yard bungalow of the police officer in Sector 15 here continued till late in the evening.

The CBI team had to requisition currency note counting machines after the cash was recovered.

Unused bullets and illegally stored liquor bottle boxes were also recovered from the house, sources said.

Following the raid, the DSP told the CBI officials that she was feeling uncomfortable and was taken to a government hospital here for a medical check-up.
