CBI grills Ramdev aide on passport issue
New Delhi/Dehradun, Aug 3 (IANS) Acharya Balkrishna, a key aide of yoga guru Baba Ramdev, appeared before the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Wednesday, on charges of obtaining an Indian passport on the basis of false documents, a CBI official said.
"Balkrishna today came to Dehradun. He is being questioned for allegedly procuring an Indian passport with fake educational degrees," he said.
After the crackdown at Baba Ramdev's venue for fast against corruption in June in New Delhi, the government asked the security agencies to probe allegations of Balkrishna holding multiple passports.
Balkrishna was granted an anticipatory bail till Aug 29 after he moved the Uttarakhand High Court July 29.
"Balkrishna on July 29 asked for 10 days' time but we gave him a deadline of Aug 4 to appear before the CBI in Dehradun," an official said.
But the court directed him to appear Aug 3.
The CBI summoned Balkrishna twice.
Balkrishna went missing for two days after the crackdown on Baba Ramdev in New Delhi.
The probe agency issued a lookout notice for him. The agency also alerted airports to prevent him from leaving the country.
Balakrishna, who resurfaced in Haridwar, has denied all the allegations againt him.
Baba Ramdev's business empire comprises 34 companies which are largely controlled by Balkrishna.
