CBI arrests senior Punjab cop over Rs.50,000 bribe

Chandigarh, July 12 (IANS) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Tuesday arrested a senior police officer in Punjab for accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000 from a man facing inquiries, said an official.


Assistant Inspector General P.S. Sandhu was posted at the Punjab Police headquarters in the city.

Nishant Sharma, resident of Punjab’s Kharar town around 15 km from Chandigarh, had submitted a written complaint against Sandhu.

“The complaint said that Sandhu was demanding a bribe of Rs.300,000 for favouring him in inquiries pertaining to cases registered against him,” said a CBI official.

“Following this, we laid a trap and arrested Sandhu while he was accepting a bribe of Rs.50,000, as part payment, at a coffee house in the evening. We have booked Sandhu under various sections and he will be produced in court tomorrow (Wednesday),” he added.
