Jammu, Sep 7 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of Jammu and Kashmir will protest if President Pratibha Patil commutes the death sentence of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru to life imprisonment.


"We will agitate against any clemency to the terrorist Afzal Guru who plotted the attack on parliament in December 2001," BJP’s state unit president Shamsher Singh Manhas told reporters here after a meeting of party leaders Wednesday.

An independent MLA, Abdul Rashid, last week submitted a resolution to the state legislative assembly, seeking clemency for Guru, sentenced to death by the Supreme Court.

Guru has appealed for mercy from the president.

The home ministry recently recommended to the president that she reject Guru's mercy petition.
