BJP supports Hazare's movement, says Varun Gandhi

New Delhi, Aug 27 (IANS) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Varun Gandhi Saturday said his party supported social activist Anna Hazare in his anti-corruption crusade, which had convinced the youth that they were indeed agents of change.

Taking part in a Lok Sabha debate on the draft Lokpal bill, Varun Gandhi called Hazare's fast a “silent revolution” and said the country was looking to Parliament for solution, not semantics.

“A manufactured divide is being brought about between the great institution of Parliament and people we represent,” he said.

According to him, the issue was not whether Jan Lokpal bill was a perfect piece of legislation. “As we debate, there is a 74-year-old man who sits quietly (between) life and death,” he said.

“We have been talking about protecting privileges of Parliament. What about protecting privileges of the people," he asked.

"Parliament should reflect public opinion, not judge it and reject it,” he said.
