BJP likely to raise CAG report on CWG in parliament

New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to raise the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report on Commonwealth Games (CWG) in parliament Monday, party leaders said.

The report slams the Delhi government over irregularities and points fingers at the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) over the appointment of Suresh Kalmadi to head the games organising committee.

After a meeting of core group of the BJP parliamentary party here Sunday, BJP leader S.S. Ahluwalia said the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) leaders will meet Monday morning at 10 a.m. to finalise their strategy. The BJP core group meeting was presided over by senior leader L.K. Advani.

Ahluwalia said several corruption-related issues had come up in the last few days and these were discussed at the meeting to finalise the party’s strategy.

"At the meeting of the NDA tomorrow (Monday) morning, we will take a final decision on what will be the strategy in parliament," he told reporters.

The party has already demanded resignation of Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit following indictment of her government by the CAG over irregularities in the games. It has also targeted the PMO and the then Finance Minister P. Chidambaram over the 2G spectum issue.

Asked if the CAG report came up in the meeting, Ahluwalia did not give a direct reply.

"You will know everything after tomorrow’s (Monday's) NDA meeting," he said.

BJP sources said if the government does not agree to its demand for a discussion on corruption related issues, the party may force an adjournment.

They said that the core group of the parliamentary party also discussed the issue of land acquisition in the wake of the government taking steps to finalise a comprehensive bill on the politically sensitive matter.
