New Delhi, July 13 (IANS) A delegation of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members led by party president Nitin Gadkari met President Partibha Patil Wednesday to demand an inquiry into the alleged rise in corruption and lawlessness in Uttar Pradesh.


“The situation in Uttar Pradesh is worsening day by day. The law and order situation in the state is bad. Dalits, minorities and women are living in fear. The rape of Dalit women is on the rise,” Gadkari told reporters after the meeting.

“We have demanded that the president intervene and constitute an independent and impartial inquiry into the increasing lawlessness and corruption in the state,” he added.

Gadkari met Patil along with senior members of the party like Murli Manohar Joshi, Rajnath Singh, Kalraj Mishra and Vinay Katiyar.

In a memorandum to the president, the BJP alleged that the Mayawati government, which has completed four years in office, has “swindled Rs.2,54,000 crores in 100 scams”.

“The people of Uttar Pradesh find themselves in turmoil,” the memorandum said.

Along with the memorandum, the delegation also enclosed a documentary "Mayajal" on the situation in the state.
