Arrest warrant issued against Jharkhand legislator

Ranchi, May 9 (IANS) A Ranchi court Monday issued arrest warrant against a Congress legislator in Jharkhand over the murder of a youth, who reportedly wanted to marry his daughter.

Sawna Lakra has been absconding for the last one week.

"Prima facie, it appears that the legislator has a role in the murder. The statement of the driver and circumstances indicate the involvement of the legislator in the murder," a police official told IANS.

Avinash Tiwari of Garwah district went missing under mysterious circumstances April 26. His body was found in Karra of Khuti district last week.

The victim's father has alleged that Sawna Lakra, legislator from Khijri, abducted and tortured his son who wanted to marry his daughter.

Police say that the legislator's daughter Usha Lakra admitted that she knew the boy but the legislator denied that he knew Avinash.

“Sawna Lakra should surrender and present his point," said Rajiv Ranjan, deputy superintendent of police.
