Anna signs 'modified' undertaking with Delhi Police
New Delhi, Aug 18 (IANS) Gandhian Anna Hazare and his team Thursday signed a "modified" undertaking with six clauses given by the Delhi Police before they proceed with their protest fast at the Ramlila ground Friday.
The undertaking which has been signed by Hazare and his aides does not restrict the number of people coming for the protest unlike the earlier one in which the number was limited to 4,000-5,000, according to a media coordinator of the Gandhian's team.
"The Delhi Police gave us a modified undertaking without the 22 clauses which we had reservations against earlier," the coordinator told IANS.
"In this undertaking, the police has said that the number of people who can take part in the protest can be as much as the capacity of the Ramlila ground... and it can accommodate 50,000 people easily," he added.
"The ground is available to us for 15 days. It also states that government officials will do medical check-ups regularly and if anyone is found unfit, that person must discontinue the fast immediately," the coordinator said.
"Also, tents can be put up and loud speakers are allowed and there is no restriction to the number of cars parked there - earlier the number was put at 50," he added.
Arvind Kejriwal, an aide of Hazare, Thursday said they have been assured by the police that the fast can be extended beyond 15 days if they want to.
The Gandhian activist, presently in Tihar Jail here, is expected to continue his protest fast at the Ramlila ground Friday.
