AMPS (Malayalee professionals in Saudi Arabia) BRAIN HUNT QUIZ SCINTILLATES JUBAIL


Jubail witnessed a stunning Quiz show on 30th December where over 600 students in 180 teams battled against each other to win the coveted ‘AMPS Brain hunt Quiz ‘competition held at a Beach camp in Jubail. This wonderfully orchestrated edifying event has become a regular calendar event for the students, teachers and quiz enthusiasts in Eastern province since 2004. The yearly Quiz of AMPS is one most sought after by the Indian school student community in the Kingdom. The program has won accolades for its top notch quality and professionalism.

Early in the preliminary written quiz, compeered by Izzam Jaffar, 40 objective questions were used to pick the top eight finalists . The mega final was inaugurated by Arab News Correspondent Siraj Wahab. He extolled the remarkable contributions made by AMPS to the entire Indian community by conducting cultural and educational events such as “Child Fest and Talent Search”, “AMPS Science Workshops” and the most sought after Brain hunt Quiz. In his presidential address, Jayan Variar, President of AMPS reiterated the commitment of AMPS to provide a platform for fostering the creativity and talents of Indian students in Saudi Arabia.

The mastermind behind this show was the quiz master PGR Nair, a seasoned Toastmaster and social activist, who conducted the show with great aplomb. His effortless style and contagious enthusiasm had ripple effect in the audience and the entire three hours of this magical mind game transpired without a lull moment. The unanswered questions by the team and the additional audience questions at the end of each round stirred a mad dash in the crowd as students vied with one another to grab the audience prizes. The questions were intelligent, stimulating and above all entertaining. Some of the interesting questions that captured the world events of 2011 were: What is the official royal title given to Kate Middleton? (Duchess of Cambridge) , Who acts as “Iron Lady” in the film on the life of former British Prime minister Margaret Thatcher? (Meryl Streep , What subject did Steve jobs study at Reed college in Portland, Oregon after becoming a college dropout? (Calligraphy), What organ was replaced in world's first transplant operation on July 8, 2011? (Trachea). Popular numbers like Dhanush’s hit song “Why this Kolaveri Di” and Gammy award number “ Need You now” by Lady Antebellum featured in the audio round created reverberation in the hall.

The “Blast of Bullets” Rapid fire round led by Asst Quizmaster Parvathy Narayan created palpable tension with Dammam International Indian school represented by Sadiqua, Vinitha Selvaraj and Fatima Matin Khan, emerging as the Champions. International Indian School Jubail, represented by Blain Biju, Rahul A and Hyder Ali won the second prize and the third prize was grabbed by Azim, Simon Sebastain & Varun Vohra from IIS, Dammam.

Elaborate stage set up and high-tech quiz devices, meticulously planned and executed by Krishna Das , VC Nair , Murali Krishnan, Mammachen and Sabeer added finesse and pomp to the show. The electronic buzzer for buzzer round not only vocalized with team name, but also displayed the photo of all the team for easy identification. The Registration Coordinator Oommen Thomas and his team efficiently managed the registration of 600 students and AMPS members. The quiz operation was engineered by Sudheer Prabhakaran, Seju Davis, Luqman Ummer, Bindu Alex and Jamuna Jayan.

Sneha Suresh paid a befitting homage at the beginning to the legendary Indian singer “Bhimsen Joshi” who passed away in 2011 . Mr. Sunil Radhakrishnan proposed Vote of Thanks. Mrs. Jyothy Warrier gracefully emceed the entire event.
