Alliance with DMK to continue in same spirit: Congress
New Delhi, June 10 (IANS) With the DMK deciding to continue with the alliance, the Congress Friday said its ties with the Tamil Nadu opposition party would "continue in the same spirit".
Congress spokesperson Jayanthi Natarajan said: "The DMK is an alliance partner from a long time. The alliance will continue in the same spirit."
Another spokesman, Manish Tewari, said the DMK has only "reiterated the status quo" with regard to its alliance.
The DMK, which held a top-level meeting in Chennai Friday in the wake of two of its leaders, including party chief M. Karunanidhi's daughter, in jail over the 2G scam, said it had no problems with the Congress at the centre but would take a call on its alliance with the party at a meeting in July.
DMK patriarch and former chief minister M. Karunanidhi, speaking to the media after chairing the party's top-level committee meeting here, described the DMK's ties with the Congress as "smooth" and added it had "no problems with the Congress".
