AI not to levy cancellation or refund fees

Mumbai, April 27 (IANS) Air India Wednesday announced that it would not levy any cancellation or refund fees from travelers hit by disrupted flight operations following a pilots' strike.

The airlines assured that in case of flight disruptions, cancellations or delay of more than one hour, full refunds would be given to passengers, irrespective of fare rules, an official said here.

There will also be no levy penalty on tickets which are refunded, re-validated, re-issued or re-booked on a subsequent flight.

The airlines expressed regrets to passengers for the inconvenience caused due to the flight disruptions on its domestic network.

Air India also appealed to all its employees to co-operate and maintain high performance in the time of crisis.

The airlines was compelled to cancel around 12 percent of all its services following a sudden strike by the Indian Commercial Pilots Association, which has members of the pre-merger Indian Airlines.

Later Wednesday afternoon, the AI hit back by declaring the strike by over 600 pilots as "illegal," de-recognising the ICPA and sealing its offices in Mumbai.

The Delhi High Court Wednesday evening stayed the flash strike but slammed the management for not addressing the pilots' demands for some two decades.
