Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 15 (IANS) Chief Minister Oommen Chandy Monday promised the people of Kerala a law empowering them to seek services from government offices within a set time frame with penalties for officials who err.


Chandy rued the hardships the common man has to go through in getting any services like driving licence, revenue record or copy of first information report.

He said the government would soon bring in the Right to Services Act.

"We assure the people of the state that once the act is implemented", anybody can avail required services in any government office "without any delay", said the chief minister.

"I am certain that just like the Right to Information Act, this act will be a path breaking initiative," he said in his first Independence Day speech since he took over as the chief minister in May.

He said his government would come out with a progress report on the first 100 days of his government.

"Once the progress card for the 100 days is placed before the people, we will then launch one-year-long programme where development would be the 'mantra'," said Chandy.
