2 cops found drunk on duty, suspended

Chandigarh, April 14 (IANS) Two Chandigarh policemen, deployed for security at the Taj Hotel where Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team was staying, have been suspended after they were found drunk on duty, an official said Thursday.

The two have been identified as sub-inspector Butta Singh and constable Paramjit Singh.

"During the late night inspection Tuesday, we found two of our officials in an inebriated condition. We got their medical examination done and the report has confirmed that they were under the influence of liquor," Deputy Superintendent of Police Roshan Lal, who was the in-charge of security arrangements, told IANS.

"I had sent their medical report and my own findings to the senior officials. The two have been suspended and a departmental inquiry has been initiated against them,” stated Lal.

The CSK team had come to Chandigarh Monday and played against Kings XI Punjab team in their Indian Premier League match Wednesday.
