12 thousand courts to be computerised by March next year
New Delhi, Sep 5 (IANS) The union government has said it will computerise 12,000 courts in 2,100 complexes in India by March 31, 2012, under its e-Courts Mission Mode Project, and hopes it will help in a speedier disposal of the huge backlog of cases.
Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid told the Rajya Sabha Monday: "The balance 2,249 courts in 969 court complexes (will be computerised) by March 31, 2014."
The minister said the number of cases pending in the high courts of India, as on Dec 31, 2010, was 42.49 lakh. Until March 31, 2009, the number was 39.55 lakh.
On the question of quick disposal of cases, Khurshid said the courts have been requested to clear pending cases in a campaign mode.
