Thousands attend mosque blast victims’ funeral
"Kuwaitis, expatriates as well as mourners who came from Gulf Cooperation Council countries were among thousands who filled the cemetery yesterday" KUWAIT: At least 35,000 people gathered at the Jaafari cemetery in Sulaibikhat yesterday for the funeral of the victims of the terrorist suicide bombing at the Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque in Al-Sawaber neighborhood in Kuwait City on Friday. The cemetery's main parking lot was jam-packed with vehicles while traffic police were dispatched to organize traffic at nearby highways. The crowds carried the coffins on their shoulders in a show of brotherhood, solidarity and unity between all sectors of the Kuwaiti society. Kuwaitis, expatriates as well as mourners who came from Gulf Cooperation Council countries were among thousands who filled the cemetery yesterday. The sadness was everywhere; as the victims' families were crying, leaving their beloveds ones in God's hands. A friend, brother, or a neighbor were lost and buried under the ground. Leaving their families behind with their pain and heartbreaking souls. But still these people came to share their grief and pain in this great event that affected all Kuwaitis. "This crowd that came for the funeral of our martyrs is the best answer to show the world how Kuwaitis are strong and care for each other, regardless of doctrine or religion," National Assembly Speaker Marzouq Ali Al-Ghanim said. "This inhuman terrorist [action] has failed, and the large presence in the cemetery is the best response to those who seek to set the Kuwaiti society apart," he added. The deadly attack during the Friday prayers at Imam Al-Sadiq Mosque left 27 people killed and 227 injured, drawing condemnations from Arab, Muslim and European countries.
