Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Jamal Al-Dousari said the sponsorship system is about to be cancelled completely with the establishment of the Public Authority for Expatriates (PAE) in the near future, reports Al-Seyassah daily.
The project of establishing the public authority has been referred to the Cabinet, he said, adding the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee at the Parliament has already approved it and has included it in the government’s agenda of laws to be ratified. After the formation of the Public Authority, the current labor sector will be converted into a department to solve expatriate laborers’ problems, said Al-Dousari. He added that Minister Mohammed Al-Afasi had approved the functional structure of the authority some time ago and “now all hopes are on the authority which will be responsible for bringing expatriate manpower after the cancellation of sponsorship system.†Receiving of all categories of work permits will be suspended during the annual inventory staged by the Labor Sector at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor at the end of each year, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry for Labor Affairs Mansour Al-Mansour said here Tuesday. Al-Mansour said in a statement today that this comes at the instructions of the Undersecretary of the Labor and Social Affairs Ministry Mohammad Al-Kandari who ordered suspension of the recepion of all categories of work permits, including abolition and transference ones, from the interval extending from Dec 26 till end of the year. However, he said that work will continue in labor departments for other measures including issuing work permits for the first time, its renewal and the final abolition of travel.
