Ministry plans to introduce smart card for expats |

Ministry of Interior is planning to introduce a ‘smart card’ system for all expatriates that will carry the full data of the bearer, reports Alam Alyawm arabic daily.
Daily reported that a comprehensive study on this system has been completed and a report has been submitted to the concerned authorities for approval prior to its implementation. According to the system an expatriate will no longer be required to go to the General Immigration Department to renew his/her residence permit because once the system goes into operation this can be done through a website including payment of fees and fines thus eliminating bureaucracy and red tape. The daily added upon the issuance of the smart card the residence permit will no longer be stamped on the passport. The daily also said security patrols will be provided with special devices for this purpose. |
