Ministries Unaffected By Absence Of Some Staffers
Visitors Scarce, 255,000 Spend Eid Outside KUWAIT CITY, July 22: A large number of employees of various ministries were absent on the first official working day after Eid al-Fitr holidays, reports Al-Anba daily quoting informed sources. They explained that 60 percent of the employees of Ministry of Education had applied for sick leaves or annual vacation to abstain from work on the three working days following Eid al-Fitr holidays. Professors and students of Kuwait University and Public Authority for Applied Education and Training were also absent on the first working day after the holidays. Public Authority for Housing Welfare and Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor also witnessed absence of employees in contrary to Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Health. Meanwhile, Undersecretary of Ministry of Communications Eng Hameed Al-Qattan affirmed that shift, location and screen allowances will be granted to employees of the ministry within two weeks along with the August salaries. On the other hand, 65 percent of employees of the Ministries Complex resumed work on the first working day after Eid al-Fitr holidays, reports Al- Qabas daily quoting a reliable source. “Even though most employees of Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Finance reported to work after the holidays, others had applied for sick leaves and annual vacation. Moreover, there was significant lack of activity in the ministry offices due to lack of visitorsâ€, he said. The source revealed that many ministries were not affected by the absence of few employees, affirming that the ministries will monitor the phenomenon of absenteeism throughout the year and not only during the holidays. Some 255,000 people spent Eid holiday outside the country, among them ministers benefiting from the 45 days paid annual holiday just like any other government employees who has served more than 15 years, as per civil service law, reports Al-Qabas daily. Some ministers spend Eid holiday and the weekend in favorite destinations in Europe away from the summer heat and the repeated power cuts in some areas of the country, while other ministers resumed their duties to receive well-wishers on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr. Also: KUWAIT CITY: Minister of Commerce and Industry Dr Yousef Al-Ali assigned a number of technical consultants in his office to prepare a comprehensive plan for evaluating the situation of Friday Market for Cars located in Jahra area in coordination with the concerned governmental authorities for organizing the market and offering the best services, reports Al-Anba daily quoting an informed source. Meanwhile, he said the Ministry of Commerce and Industry intends to fill all the vacancies in the leading positions including of three assistant undersecretaries during the next phase. The source revealed that the undersecretaries will be from outside the ministry and they should be PhD holders, adding that they will be appointed in vacancies in three sectors which are legal sector, companies sector and supervision and consumer protection sector.
