Health Ministry announces Kuwait is polio free
Kuwait has had no confirmed reports of polio since 1984, four years prior to the global announcement of the eradication of this disease in 1988, said a Kuwaiti official on Saturday.
Speaking at the General Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO), member of the Kuwaiti Health Ministry's delegation, Dr. Mohammad Al-Nasser, said that Kuwait began administering the polio vaccination since 1963, and made it mandatory for children in 1980, which led to a fall in cases and its eventual disappearance.
