Security Crackdown After The Eid Al-Fitr KUWAIT CITY, July 9: The General Department for Residence Affairs has issued a decision which is expected to benefit about 30,000 domestic workers (drivers, house help and menial workers) carrying residence permit under Article 20, reports Al- Qabas daily. Informed security sources familiar with the daily said the grace period will give the 30,000 violators who are part of 110,000 various types residence law violators of all nationalities, an opportunity to legally stay in the country provided they approach the Immigration Department in their respective governorates, hold a valid passport and there is no criminal case against them. The decision also said the residence permit for this category will be given within 48 hours of making the application. The source said the Director- General of the General Directorate for Residence Affairs, Major-General Talal Maarafi has given instructions to department managers in the six governorates to issue residence permit within 48 hours of the application. According to the source, the decision also includes the spouses and children of citizens who carry Article 22. The source continued saying this will solve the legal gap which existed earlier when the violator was referred to the General Department for Investigations without granting the person residence permit. The source added a security crackdown, with the participation of many of the security sectors, will be launched soon, specifically after the Eid al-Fitr to arrest violators of residence laws which will be followed by deportation.
