Expat Medical Fees May Rise
MoH Reports Two ‘Swine Flu’ Deaths KUWAIT CITY, April 2: Ministry of Health’s Assistant Undersecretary for Legal Affairs Dr Mahmood Al-Abdul Hadi has confirmed the formation of a committee to review the fees that expatriates currently pay for various medical services, reports Al- Nahar daily. Hadi clarified Minister of Health Dr Ali Al-Obeidi has the authority to increase fees for medical services without consulting the Ministers Council as per Law Number 1/1991. Commenting on the issue, sources from the ministry said the fees might increase by 30 to 50 percent, pointing out the cost of medical treatment for expatriates is considered a heavy burden on the State budget. The current fees for medical services are as follows: MRI — KD 180 for residents and KD 245 for visitors, CT scan — KD 70 for residents and KD 95 for visitors, ANGIO — KD 140 for residents and KD 190 for visitors, IVP — KD 40 for residents and KD 55 for visitors, BA ***** — KD 35 for residents and KD 50 for visitors, BAMEAL — KD 30 for residents and KD 45 for visitors, and Sonar — KD 10 for residents and KD 15 for visitors MoH reports two ‘swine flu’ deaths The Ministry of Health has announced the death of two people who were allegedly suffering from Swine Flu, reports Al-Qabas daily. One of the victims is a Kuwaiti and the other is believed to be Indian. However, there are contradictory reports concerning the causes of deaths. However, The Assistant Undersecretary for General Health Affairs Dr Majda Al-Qattan said that the 62-year-old Kuwaiti was suffering from overweight but had the symptoms of Swine Flu. He was referred to the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center following which his condition worsened and he died a few weeks later. The Head of Physiotherapy at the Adan Hospital Dr. Waleed Al-Baseeri denied this information. He affirmed the Kuwaiti who died at the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Center was his brother and the cause of death was chronic lung inflammation. Al-Baseeri told the daily the information circulated by the some circles that the man died as a result of Swine Flu is untrue. Regarding the death of Indian, Al-Qattan said the man died at the Adan Hospital. He died as a result of Swine Flu. Sources pointed out he was suffering from asthma and affirmed the importance of taking Swine Flu vaccination during October and November every year especially people suffering from diabetes and blood high pressure. The sources reassured that there is no need to panic because this case does not constitute an epidemic. Meanwhile, knowledgeable sources criticized the absence of transparency in dealing with Swine Flu cases wondering why the Ministry delayed in announcing the two deaths although one of them died two weeks ago and the other 10 days ago according to a statement issued by the Ministry.
